OBD-II code · Fuel & Ignition
Idle speed is higher than the target of the computer. On port-injection cars that is usually an unmetered vacuum leak or a sticky idle valve; on direct-injection engines it is often carbon around the throttle plate holding it open.
Throttle body replacement ($600+ installed) — or a top-end cleaning menu item — without ever mapping WHERE the extra air is sneaking in.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $600 (throttle body) when the leak was a $25 PCV hose
Smoke test for leaks, command the idle valve through its range on a scan tool, watch short-term fuel trims as you pass carb cleaner around suspect hoses. High idle has a source; a 15-minute test names it.
