OBD-II code · Transmission
This is a meta-code: the transmission computer telling the engine computer it stored its own fault(s). The real answer is whatever codes live inside the TCM — which a basic parts-store reader never shows you.
Transmission slipping — $3,500 rebuild or $4,800 remanufactured. A headline P0700 with no subcodes read is the single most expensive game in the industry.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $3,500–$4,800 (rebuild) based on a code that contains no diagnosis at all
Pull the TCM subcodes with a full-system scanner, check fluid condition and line pressure, watch shift adaptives and solenoid data. Plenty of transmission failures end up being a $90 solenoid, a wiring repair, or a software update.
